An Uncle's Funeral

My step-dad's brother, known to me as "Uncle Kenny", passed away a few days ago. I just returned from the funeral. He was 89 years old, having been married for 66+ years. He is a gentle, kind person who hardly complained. However, when told that he wouldn't live to see July 4th (2007), he did take issue by living to see two July 4ths. Uncle Kenny was a light for Christ, whether it was showing me by his life what a godly marriage is like, or being a witness at the nursing home where he spent the last 16 or so months of his life. I will look forward to laughing with him again in the not so distant future.
Wells Family News

barby16 writes, "Chris and Ashley Wells moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 29th of September. They are temporarily living in an apartment until they buy their first home. Chris will be flying F-16's in the 125th fighter squadron with the Tulsa Air National Guard.

Melinda, Corey Wells' wife who had brain cancer surgery in April, along with 33 radiation treatments, has received some good news. In September her MRI was clear; no cancer cells. Praise God"

Note: Click here to see the Wells branch of the family tree.
Women's Retreat Amazing

I attended the Summer WomanSpirit Retreat this past weekend at Ronora Lodge in Watervliet, MI. As co-chair of the overseeing group, Women and Religion, I am always a bit trepidatious about how it all will turn out. I had a feeling that it would be good since I was the "grandmother", or past-chair, and thus on the inside track just a bit. Well, it exceeded my expectations!

We had fabulous ceremonies, great workshops, wonderful drumming and time for dancing. The food, as always at Ronora, was superb! I got to talk to most of the women new to our experience, and there were quite a few, and catch up with long-time buddies. There were also young girls and a few teens amongst us who always lend a bit of unpredictability and energy which is a treat. AND there were 3 babies too, 2 9-month old twins and a 2- month old, so I really got my baby-fix.

Feels like we ought to get a breather after such a wonderful event in order to process it and just relive and enjoy the good times. But life goes on quickly and I am now catching up the loose ends and following up with jobs needing to be done committee-wise.

I am still smiling about the whole thing!! Wow. Just grateful for all the wonderful people and happenings in my life.
